Deductive logic...?

so...There are three types of deductive logic.

-syllogism

-modus ponens

-modus tollens

1. Syllogism is a bringing together of two statements to arrive at a conclusion.

  • of the two statements one is a generalization and the second is a specific factual statement related to the general statement
  • the conclusion brings these two statements together
  • no new substance is brought into the conclusion
  • heres a comic i found...

2. Modus ponens is Affirming the Antecedent, where X is the antecedent which is affirmed as true.

  • If X is true then Y is true.
    X is true.
    Therefore Y is true.
  • an example would be ... If you repent, you will go to heaven. You have repented. So therfore you will go to heaven

3. Modus tollens is the root of falsification.

  • If X is true then Y is true.
    Y is false.
    Therefore X is false.
  • an example would be... If there is smoke, there is fire. There is not fire, so there is no smoke.

done :P
